Tamikio L. Dooley
Raven Upon My Doorstep
I dawdled at my bedroom window,
One midnight, for no discernible reason,
I heard boundaries around the phases.
Someone speaking at my door,
Generally, I would have neglected it,
But whatever it was started singing.
It whistled such a beautiful, apocalyptic tone.
A harmony embodying the soul,
So I left behind my bedroom to the signing sound.
After addressing the staircase, guiding my steps,
There was a shadow through the window.
My hand was on the doorknob.
The door was open.
There was nobody there.
But then I glanced down at my doorstep.
And there it was,
The thing that sings such a beautiful, ominous song,
It was a Raven upon My Doorstep.
